#1 Utilize Coffee Beans

Coffee beans can be used for much more than making your favorite morning beverage. They’re also a great, natural way to neutralize strong odors. For instance, some stores will keep a jar of coffee beans next to their perfumes so that you can refresh your senses before testing other perfume scents. This technique can be used in your home and it’s extremely simple. In order to do this, fill jars with freshly ground or whole coffee beans and place them throughout your home. The jars will elude strong scents of coffee that will combat foul odors and leave your home smelling fresh.

#2 Natural Air Freshener Sprays

One of the easiest ways to quickly freshen up a room is to use an air freshener spray. While most spray air fresheners contain harsh chemicals, these homemade solutions are all natural and safe to use in your home. First, you’ll need to gather some supplies. You’re going to need:

  • Empty spray bottle

  • ¾ cup of water

  • 2 tablespoons of rubbing alcohol

  • The essential oil combination of your choice.

The process for making your own natural air freshener solution is simple. Just combine the water, rubbing alcohol, and essential oils in your spray bottle and mix together. Some popular fragrance combinations are:

  • Citrus Mint:

10 drops of orange essential oil and 8 drops of peppermint essential oil.

  • Sweet Lavender:

10 drops of lavender essential oil, 5 drops of chamomile essential oil, and instead of using rubbing alcohol, replace it with 2 tablespoons of vanilla extract.

  • Holiday Mix:

6 drops of orange essential oil, 5 drops of cassia (or cinnamon) essential oil, and 5 drops of clove essential oil.

  • Deodorizing Mix:

4 drops of tea tree essential oil, 8 drops of lemon essential oil, and 6 drops of eucalyptus essential oil.

  • Concentration Mix:

10 drops of peppermint essential oil, and 8 drops of rosemary essential oil.

#3 Create Fresh Herbal Bouquets

Fresh herbal bouquets are a unique and fun way to add some natural decor to your home, but that’s not all that they’re used for. The arrangements are made of various herbs and flowers that act as a natural deodorizer. To create your own herbal bouquet, start by picking out your herbs and flowers. Freshly snipped herbs such as geranium, peppermint, rosemary, and lavender provide fragrant aromas that will help freshen up your home. Then you can either tie them into bouquets or place them in a small bud vase. Fresh herbal bouquets are simple, cute, all-natural, and will help freshen up your home instantly.

#4 Classic Pomander Balls

Pomander balls are clove studded oranges that were designed in the Middle Ages to help purify the air. While times have changed since these were first introduced, the tradition of using pomander balls as natural air fresheners is still relevant today. As the oranges dry out, they release an aromatic fragrance that will help mask other odors in your home. And the cloves act as a dehydrator to help draw out moisture from the orange.

To make a pomander ball is quite simple and won’t take very long to do. All you need are some oranges (leave whole) and some cloves. You can poke the cloves directly into the orange or you can pierce holes into the fruit prior to inserting the cloves. And then just place them around your home in the areas that need freshening up, and you’re done!

#5 Homemade Reed Diffusers

Reed diffusers are commonly used in homes as air fresheners and luckily, they’re super easy to make. To create a handcrafted reed diffuser that will enhance your home’s smell, start by gathering your supplies. You’re going to need almond oil, reed sticks, glass jars (may be tall or short) and your favorite essential oils. Combine the almond oil and essential oils in your glass jar, and then place your reed sticks in. Be sure to flip your reed sticks either all at once every day, or a few at a time every other day to enjoy more fragrance.
